RCS or Rich Communication Services is a Platform that enable delivery of communication experiences beyond voice and SMS.Present Standard Messaging Apps helps us to Send and Receive only SMS & MMS messages to any phone.This is the main reason why Third Party Messaging Apps so popular now a days when compare to the Standard Messaging Services.Google now recognizes that it needs to make improvements in Standard Messing App so that,Google has committed to bring RCS to it's messaging app that supports Group chat,Sending of High Resolution Images or Videos up-to 100 MB and send read receipts.

How google bringing RCS to it's Messaging Services :

Global Operators, Google and the GSMA Align Behind Adoption of Rich Communications Services.Google Provide RCS Messaging to Android Users Via Messenger App version 2.0.For this google Acquired  Jibe Mobile, a messaging startup that’s been a leader in the RCS standard ever since it was founded in 2006. Jibe’s main goal now is to help carriers easily deploy RCS to their users, which should help make a big impact on carrier messaging in the future.With Jibe, Google is building a dedicated RCS client to run on Android devices.To take advantage of RCS, Android users on supported devices have to use Google’s Messenger app as their default client.

Why RCS :

Texting changed the way we communicate, but it’s out of date. Today we want messaging that lets us do things like share high-res photos and larger files, chat with a group, know when messages are read, or make video calls.RCS makes all this possible, and now the mobile industry is coming together to bring it to users everywhere.RCS messaging was designed to move mobile networks beyond texting, different approaches made it difficult and costly for carriers to bring it to users.

RCS Supported Android Devices :

Starting next year, all newly sold Android devices from Sprint will come with Messenger preloaded as the default SMS and RCS messaging client.google is reportedly rolling out new messaging service RCS to selected Messenger 2.0 users.this users will get a pop up notification with new menu settings.

Subscribers currently using select LG and Nexus phones from Sprint will have the messaging experience upgraded automatically through an app update, and subscribers using other Android devices can download Messenger from the Play store.
